I know, it is disappointing to bin those planned travels for the year 2020 because of the COVID pandemic around the world. If you are truly a wise traveler, you will heed the government warning against unnecessary travels. Besides, most of the countries around the world have closed their borders to prevent the spread of the virus. There is very limited travel at all for commercial passengers like you and I. But, we just have to make the most of it while being in lockdown in our own ways.

Much as we are itching to pack our bags and fly across the world to our favored destinations, we can only sit back and try to do things that is still travel related but without having to leave the comforts and safety of our homes. And here are some tips on things to do that are travel related while in lockdown.

Watch Youtube or other travel documentary shows

Since being stuck at home and having to cancel the whole of my 2020 travel plans, I have been busy watching travel vlogs of Youtubers and even watching documentary shows. I, for one, have a travel vlog that my husband and I created. So, I re-watch the ones we have posted. You can check out our travel vlog here: The Travelbugs

We also watch other travel vlogs for inspiration so we know where to go next. Entertain yourself with plenty of travel vlogs and documentaries so you can see how fun traveling is even from the comfort of your home and jammies!

Read travel books and blogs for inspiration

The lock down should not stop you from checking out your future destinations. This is a good time to brush up on geography, learn more about other countries and their culture, and explore many places thru the wonders of a travel book.

My mum used to buy plenty of coffee table books with glossy pages of beautiful places around the world. That was one of the reasons why I love to travel. My mum introduced how amazing the world is thru those lovely travel books at an early age. If you don’t have travel books, research the web.

Organize your travel photos and make a memory book

You probably kept delaying that one task of organizing your travel photos so you can make a memory book. Now’s the time to do that because the lock down is a perfect opportunity for you to do just that. Since I starting working from home last end of March, I was able to collate my digital travel photos and saved them in my hard disk. I even managed to discover old photos saved in my other USB drives that I didn’t even recall. The extra time in my hands allowed me to do some organizing and proper labeling of digital folders so I know where our photos are saved from the various countries we have visited in the past.

Start a travel blog

Have you been delaying writing about your travels? Perhaps you wanted to share your travel but not sure how? Just start. Create a free blog at first then fill those digital pages with entries of your travels. And if you want hosting for your blog, you can trust the service of Bluehost.com which has been my hosting plan for many years.

Do you have travel tips to share? How about favorite dining places to feature or a favorite B&B or hotel that you want to recommend? Write them in your travel blog and share!

Create travel videos from your old travels

Well, this is what I have been doing lately. Since I have just finished organizing my old photos and other videos from old trips, I have managed to make 3 videos already. The spare time I have after the work-from-home duty is done gave me the opportunity to patch some videos together to upload in our YouTube Channel. Make use of those times and drive your energy to travel in creating beautiful videos to share.

Plan your future trip

I love making travel plans. I have already made few while still in work-from-home mode. The travel may not be happening soon but it’s good to know that I can easily pull one from my magic hat once travel is safe and the world is COVID-free!

You can check out the many tours available in Viator to give you an idea of itineraries to follow on your future travel. This saves you time in researching where and how to get there if you can get some tips and ideas from Viator’s many tours.

You can start checking out hotel rates to prepare your budget. With all the issues surrounding the pandemic, many hotel operators are probably offering very good rates for travelers to entice them to stay once lockdowns are lifted. My go-to site for my hotels is Booking.com as I have been a client of theirs for many years. And even when there are issues, Booking.com staff are quick to action my request.
