I am a fan of the Ibis chain of hotels from the Accor group. I love how simple and functional the rooms are in Ibis Hotels. They are not fussy and just straight comfort and leisure at the same time.
I spent a night at Ibis World Trade Centre in Dubai recently to attend the Savex Sale happening at the World Trade Centre that time. I decided to just book a room because I didn’t want to commute back home with my stash, considering my back issues.
I booked a single room with breakfast directly from the Accor website since I am also a member. I like the fact that, as a Le Club Loyalty Programme Member of the Accor Group, I got to enjoy an extra 5% off the price for a single night stay in Ibis World Trade Centre Dubai. I compared it with other booking sites and I was happy with the rate given for members. And I am only in the Classic Tier. The discount gets bigger as you level up in status in the programme.
What I like:
Big check on this one. It is very near the Metro Station (Dubai World Trade Centre station, Red Line), Sheikh Zayed road (the main artery of Dubai leading to the business centres, downtown, theme parks), next to the World Trade Centre Exhibition Hall, and near to plenty of restaurants, and other hotels.
The bed is super comfortable, just like my other stay in Ibis hotels in Amsterdam and Prague. There was a spare pillow and comforter in the closet and I love having extra pillows. I had a good night’s sleep.
Even if the hotel was located very near the main thoroughfare and metro line and big exhibition hall, it was very quiet. There was a construction happening nearby and I didn’t even hear anything.
Well, it is not pristine but clean, not dusty, bed linen and pillow cases are fresh (I smelled it). The bathroom mirror is wiped clean with no spots and so is the shower door and glass divider.
The room is decently lighted with enough illumination to make it bright even if you switch the lamps off.
The staff at the Concierge were friendly and accommodating. They processed my check in and out quite fast.
This is important to all of the hotels I book at. There should be a fast, and free wifi and this hotel ticks both.
Reasonable since I enjoyed an extra 5% off for Accor Le Club Loyalty Programme members.
I like the various selection of food available for their breakfast buffet. There were some Arabic spread, cold cuts, breads, a nice coffee/expresso machine, juices, cereals, and hot meals like scrambled eggs, sausages, chicken bacon, hash browns, etc.
What I don’t like
No information about my extra/special request
I asked for a special request of any token or surprise since it was my 22nd wedding anniversary and I wanted to show it to my husband who was in Manila that time. I requested the hotel during my booking process if it was possible to put some card or anything that would greet me and my husband. I am aware that requests are not guaranteed. What I didn’t expect was not being informed that it couldn’t be done. So at least, there was this little hope that I might get a surprise so I could picture and send to my hubby. Well, I was a bit disappointed but understandable that the hotel could not guarantee any special extras/requests of guests. I couldn’t help but compare to Crowne Plaza in Dubai Festival City where they surprised me with a full sized chocolate mousse cake and a card signed by everybody in the restaurant. They delivered it to my room. I was not even a member of their hotel’s loyalty programme and yet, I felt that special treatment done the extra mile for a guest’s special day.
Much as it was clean, the toilet area had a tight spot. I am already small but I had to maneuver opening the door and closing it so I could sit properly on the toilet bowl. I could imagine a tall person sitting there on a tight quarter.
My recommendation: 4 out of 5
It is a 2-star property but seems like a 4-stars hotel with a boutique feel. The location is perfect for those who are in business trip because it is near the financial district of Dubai, close to the World Trade Centre Exhibition Halls for those who will attend conventions/ workshops/ trainings/ exhibits/ conference, etc. There are also plenty of food outlets to check aside from the vending machine in some floors of the hotels where you can get water, juices, soda, and even snacks in case you get hungry late at night.
The hotel is also walking distance to the Metro Station (Red Line – Dubai World Trade Centre) and picking up taxi is not a problem. It is also close to the malls and other places of interest in the downtown area of Dubai.
Price is reasonable considering the level of comfort you will get while in this hotel. So, I will recommend this to mostly business folks. Family is also welcome since you will get access to the nearby pool of it’s sister hotel – Novotel.
Safety is not a problem since it is located in a very well-lit, main thoroughfare area. There are also security personnel in the premises.
